She pushed open the door, peeking around it before stepping in. She was happy that she'd managed to work her way back to the orphanage and even more happy that it was still standing in one piece. With all the violence in the streets, and most of it being directed at "powered, non-human freaks", she'd been terrified that she'd find the orphanage utterly decimated.
She wiped a hand across her cheek, smearing a bit of blood. There were a few cuts and scrapes on her face and legs from her attempts to escape others. She'd never been chased before. She wasn't very good at it, tripping over rocks that she didn't notice as she focused on the people chasing her. Who chased little kids anyway? She wished she had her fire back. Then she could scare them away. She would never hurt them (she wouldn't be like them), but having fire blown at them would have to scare them away.
She closed the door quietly behind her, taking one more glance outside to make sure no one had followed her. It had never been this scary back home, not even when she'd lost her papa. There'd only been lies and a few mean people then. Now it's hordes of people with magic who didn't care who they hurt. Her ears pressed against her head as she walked farther into the building, wrapping her arms around herself. "Mr. Io? Ms. Korra? Is anyone here?"
