âEfi, may the Maker help me, if you get into that lake, I am going to sit on you until you beg for a-â
Too late. She was in the water. He yelped, despite the fact that the girl could swim, and shucked off his shirt and kicked off his shoes to jump in after her - sure, it was only making a bigger mess, but you couldnât just threaten her and then not follow through.
Besides - the idea of a swim was rather soothing, especially after that talk with Bethany.
âCome here, you impossibly cute monster.â

Efi barely heard Anders. She'd long since decided that she was gonna swim in the lake. Why put it here if it wasn't for swimming? Besides, it wasn't like there were signs saying no swimming and Anders hadn't actually told her no.
With a yelp of excitement, she jumped into the water. For a moment her head was underwater and then she was popping back up, kicking her small legs to keep aloft. She looked over at Anders, smiling as he started to come in after her. He was gonna swim too! This was feeling more like a game than anything else.
"Never!" she shouted before trying to swim away. Only she'd never been taught how to actually swim. The best she could do was a slow dog paddle away from Anders. "Catch me if you can!"
