Sofa
I woke up from another movie night, feeling a slight shift under me. As I rubbed the sleep away from my eyes, I noticed the warm figure beneath sending light snores into the air, hair all messy and curly just like a poodle, eyes peacefully closed sound asleep. I didn’t want to disturb him and wake him from his slumber but my legs were numb and I had to get up. Failing my attempts to keep my boyfriend asleep, I heard a deep groan coming from beneath me and felt his arms wrapping around my waist, preventing my movements.
“No.” He groaned, tightning his embrace. “Ashton I have to stretch my legs.” I giggled, trying to wiggle my way out of his arms. “Fine. I actually have to get up as well. This is a comfy sofa, just not for sleeping.” He chuckled, stretching his arms and yawning, rubbing his eyes and pushing his hair out of the way.
“I agree. I can barely move my neck.” I said, making my way to the kitchen to get some food for us both. I started by turning the toaster and the kettle on and then grabbing some bread and two mugs. Toast and tea was normally our breakfast of choice, with the occasional pancakes and waffles. As I reached for the butter and vegemite, two strong arms wrapped themselves around my waist. Ashton nuzzled his face where my neck met my shoulder, inhaling the smell of the jam he most certainly loved very much.
“Mmmm vegemite, there’s nothing better than vegemite. I could eat a whole jar of it.” “Oh I know, I’ve seen it.” I felt him chuckling, as he gently swayed us side to side, humming a tune in my ear.
“You know, the sofa is getting cold.” I said, pouring the hot water into the mugs filled with tea tags. “Are you trying to get rid of me?” Ashton teased. “I just don’t want to sit on a cold sofa, since it’s freazing outside.” Ashton groaned like a little boy and kissed my cheek “Well hurry up then.” He said, taking his toast and mug with him and placing the cuttlery on the coffee table, wrapping himself in the blanket we were using.
“Hey what about me? You’re using almost all of the blanket!” I said, making my way to the sofa he was occupying. “No I’m not, look!” He said, opening the blanket and making room for me so I could sit inbetween his legs. I gently took my position assembled by Ashton, carefully trying not to hit his mug accidentally and burning our skins. As soon as I rested my back against his front, I imediately felt his warmth and safety. Ashton had that effect of me: he would always make me feel safe just with his touch and smile and I love him for that and for many other reasons, including his childlike banter.
“Love you” he said, kissing the back of my neck tenderly. I responded saying “Love you too curly”, turning my head so I was facing him and leaning in, placing a soft kiss on his lips. He then took the oportunity to catch me by surprise and kiss me on the nose, making me giggle and snuggle deeper into his embrace. We stayed like this the whole day, watching Friends and chilling, just like two lazy couch potatoes.
