Scott Rudin has been a main stay Hollywood and Broadway producer for many years.
He has produced films that some of us still thoroughly watch such as The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, School of Rock (2003 film), The Addams Family (1991 film), No Country For Old Men, The Social Network and many more.
And has produced Tony Nominated and Tony Award winning Broadway plays and Musicals. The Book of Mormon, West Side Story, The Humans, Passion, Hello, Dolly! and more.
His recent asset and hope was with the Music Man revival at the Winter Garden theatre, replacing Beetlejuice on Broadway after the latter had a fallout with their sales for a couple weeks, and the theatre used a clause in the contract to find a show that will bring them more revenue.
Recently, allegations of abuse, bullying and harassment from former employees were brought into light and many Broadway Actors and Actresses reacted in astonishment and anger.
His direct involvement with displacing many workers from Beetlejuice on Broadway is seen as an outrage to audience members and the cast and crew, while the Music Man will be no doubt be amazing, the stain of Scott’s abuse and torment of his employees will hit the show.
The silence of The Music Man’s stars: Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster have added fuel to the fire, enraging fans of both parties further.
And I would like to say, we did it!
With this article from the New York Times, it states that Scott will be taking a step back from his Broadway ventures, or at the very least have less of an impact on them.
Though apologies and the steps taken to reduce the abuse are WAYYYY overdue, it shows that times are changing.
It’s Only Intermission, begone the old abusive and unforgiving bastards and welcome the home warming love from every person working in that industry.
