what was the Darkling's plan if Baghra didn't try to both kill Mal (poor Mal lol) *and* sneak Alina away? He obviously still wanted the info from Mal and had to satisfy's Mal's demand somehow (good for show!Mal for negotiating) but obviously had *other* plans (hehe) for Alina that night plus he probably didn't want Alina to hang out with her childhood bff and discover he hasn't received her letters! Maybe use Marie in disguise but Marie got killed (RIP)! so what then?
Uhhhh knowing the Darkling I assume part of his plan hinged on showing Alina such a good time that the letters would not even occur to her. Just make her so blissed out that when he takes her to see Mal the next morning, she's dreamily like "Oh hi Mal, I've temporarily forgotten all other men exist but thank you, Aleksander, so much for reuniting me with my best friend, you're the best ever" and go from there! Foolproof.
So as she leaves Redwall, Mariel swears that if she dies on her quest that her spirit will find its way back, and I kind of want a fic where in later books the abbey is haunted by Martin and Mariel.
Theory: Dan is related to Chili Pope the Ninth
The Prophecy stated that a hotdog is meant to fall into a volcano to get the GUP but it wad never specified who got the GUP or which hotdog was needed in order to fulfill the prophecy.
The Pope refers to Dan and Rebecca as The Hotdog clan, signifying a long family tree and history and specifically orders that it be Dan who gets dropped into the volcano to get the GUP.
Is Dan also a witch? I think so. If Brandon can read and recite the spells of witches while others can't who's to say it doesn't run in the family?
The GUP is given to the pope almost automatically and my theory is that he needed the most powerful kin of the Hotdog clan to be dropped in in order to get the GUP.
