Tuvok abandoning his kolinahr studies to be with T'Pel instead is so romantic actually. What if you were a monk-in-training pursuing total discipline over your mind, body, and soul via the absence of any emotion but when the dreaded fever that afflicts your people, illogic incarnate, struck you down - she was there to guide you safely from the flames. Her hand, so much smaller than your own, had dragged you from the jaws of death. And in the aftermath you knew both that this woman (no one and nothing else) had saved you and that you couldn't bear to separate what had become intertwined. And then T'Pel too. Despite all evidence to the contrary, despite the universe giving Tuvok up for dead - believed that he would return to her. It is not strictly logical or illogical but they obviously place their faith in each other (perhaps even their love for one another) over what seems to be the most logical path forward.
