America in one conversation

so this story takes a little background. my school is part of a shared campus, which means that multiple schools exist on that campus, and we have a shared high school theater program because of that, and this meant I went to another school's building for rehearsal, and one of the actors from the other schools was late and it was my job to call them, and they told me that they didn't go to school since there was a gun threat, which I didn't know, AND I WAS STANDING IN THAT BUILDING. Nothing happened but while i was waiting for my dad I heard this

random student: I wasn't at school because I didn't want to get shot

random student's friend: really?????

random student: getting shot is expensive
