My special skill with my love of learning, some basic language skills in foregin languages, the unlimited potential of the internet, and the technically undiagnosed but definitely-on-the-verge-or-at-least-in-the-flavour-profile-of-ADHD is:
I can get very passionate about most anything. And I mean ANYTHING.
Now the great thing about this is that I can learn everything is there about to learn for ANYTHING. I can literally become a rocket scientist overnight with the help of the internet, some caffeine and some good old-fashioned hyperfixation.
The downside of this very special skill is that I'm not at all in control of what my brain thinks it's worth investing time and energy into.
You see, it has to tickle my fancy and when it's over and the fancy is not tickled anymore, it's over. I don't make the rules.
I could become a doctor, a scientist, a stock-market analyst, or just a cool "specialist" of a cool subject or field.
But I guess tonight I will learn anything that there is to learn about the perfect crochet stitches despite only taking up a crotchet hook for the first time.
Cooking with ADHD is fucking wild man. I'll open the fridge to get something out and forget why and just stand there zoned out until the fridge beeps and snaps me out of it. I'll forget what I was cooking in the first place and end up getting the ingredients for something else entirely. I've put Italian seasoning in the fridge and cheese under the sink and have no memory of doing so. And yesterday I opened the fridge to grab some carrots and put them on the counter for me to cut them, and not even ten seconds later I opened the fridge looking for carrots and saw I didn't have any and that I'd have to completely rethink dinner, and it wasn't until I went back to the counter to assess what I had that I saw I'd already pulled the carrots out of the fridge
told myself i'd sit down and get some work done and instead i've made half a dozen clay mushrooms and ordered a packet of cannabis seeds
Two of my friends make decisions in a way that to me seems rather slow. It takes them weeks to mull over something and then actually voice it. As someone who makes decisions like a drunken clown on a unicycle going round and round until he either gets sick or sobers up (by spinning the thought around in my head incessantly until I come to a decision), I am aware that their method is probably better…healthier. I’m just too impatient and impulsive for it to be a method I’d use. I should work on that.
I can never enjoy things normally, it must always consume me
