The feeling when you read fanfiction in the same room where your mom is, just doing her own stuff, and the characters FINALLY kiss, and you are silently dying because you want to giggle and kick your feet and all that, but you can't because your mom will look at you like you have gone insane

Why do Byler shippers, and for that matter people who don't ship Byler, seem to think that Mike and Eleven broke up in the last season? They had a fight. Something that all couples have. That doesn't automatically mean that they broke up. If they did, the writers would have said that at some point in an interview, the cast members would have spoken about it. The characters in the show would have mentioned it. It wouldn't be left up to debate. I just can't see the writers not touching on that at all in the show, when they made a point to make sure that Max mentioned that she broke up with Lucas in either the first or second episode of season four, and how they made Jonathan and Nancy somehow have the most romantic break up I've ever seen in my life. Not to mention that in season three, when Mike and Eleven actually ARE broken up for a short while, the writers actually have Eleven say that to Mike. That didn't happen in their fight in season four. The writers also had Mike confess that he loved her in the season four finale. Why have him do that if they broke up? When they reunite before that happens, the hug that they shared was very romantic. There was nothing platonic about it. The very first episode of season five has them talking about a future together once everything is said and done, a conversation that Mike brings up again a few episodes later, a future where they can live somewhere far away from everything, and be at peace. I just don't understand how people can see all of that and conclude that these two are broken up.

Wishful thinking. Most b*lers had to agree that, post vol. 1, there was next to no time to break up Mike and Eleven, make both of them reach a place of acceptance of their new platonic dynamic, and make Mike realize he loves/pursue Will. So the fantasy twists itself to accommodate that: it's still going to happen, because the break up happened off screen! And they didn't tell us for... reasons!

I'm not gonna lie, I do think the Mike/Eleven chemistry was lacking this season, and their scenes mostly fell flat for me. But again, there is a difference between "this fell flat for me" and "this was made to fall flat for everyone, because there is a secret plan in place." Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, sometimes a mediocre canon romance is just a mediocre canon romance. You have to learn to accept that.
