Since our planned bot trip was cancelled together (it was too windy), we decided to go out to Elizabeth Castle. The castle is built on two islands, now connected and was built in the 16th century as a defence for the island. Sir Walter Raleigh was the Governor of Jersey at the time and the castle sheltered Charles II during the English Civil War. It was then occupied by German forces during the Second World War. The causeway can be accessed for short periods every day, we almost didn’t get back across in time as the waves were lapping against the edge. Thankfully there is a duck boat that travels back and forth ferrying visitors. Since the lockdown it was pretty quiet with only about 4 or 5 other families there, which is unusual.
