Alison Amanda Hinds is a British-born female soca artist based in Barbados. She is one of the most popular soca singers in the world and has been given the nickname the "Queen of Soca". Alison Hinds was born in London and grew up in Plaistow. Both of her parents were from the island of Barbados, her father a worker at Ford's Dagenham plant. When she was aged 11 her parents split up and she migrated to Barbados with her mother. She competed in the Richard Stoute teen talent contest in 1987, finishing third. She was a lead vocalist in the popular band Square One, joining in 1987 and recording several albums with the band before leaving in 2004 after her daughter Saharan was born. She won the Barbados Song Contest in 1992 with the duet with John King "Hold You in a Song", and the Road March in 1996 and 1997 and Party Monarch competition in Barbados in 1997. Currently Alison Hinds lives with her family, husband Edward Walcott and daughter, on a privately owned horse farm, which her husband manages, in Barbados. She has her own band, "The Alison Hinds Show", formed in 2005, with Hinds the main singer and most of the other members of the band young dancers and musicians. After returning to music with a vocal contribution to a remix of Kevin Lyttle's "Turn Me On", she returned to the soca scene with the hit song "Roll It Gal," which praises women's independence in lyrics about female empowerment. The song was a huge hit throughout the Caribbean, and was released in the UK in 2007 to coincide with the release of her début album. Gina Ann Casandra Swainson is a Bermudian model and Beauty Queen who won Miss World 1979 and the first runner-up at Miss Universe 1979 Pageant held in Australia. This pageant was notable on another level, as immediately after the winner was crowned the stage collapsed, resulting in injuries to a few contestants. As the official representative of Bermuda to the 1979 Miss World pageant held in London, United Kingdom on November 15, she captured the crown of Miss World 1979, becoming the only woman to win a major international pageant for Bermuda as of 2016 and the most successful at both Miss Universe and Miss World. Upon her return to Bermuda, there was a parade in her honor and Swainson was depicted on a series of Bermudian postage stamps in 1980. Gina was 21 years old when she won the Miss World, standing 5ft 9” with measurements of 36-24-36. Beating a field of 69 international beauty queens, Gina received $10,750 in prize money and a guaranteed $32,250 for a year’s work contract.Gina is reported as saying one of the first things she wanted to do after winning the title was to telephone her mother, who was in hospital in Bermuda waiting to undergo surgery. “I know (the Miss World title) is going to cheer her up,” she said. Born in 1958 in Bermuda, Gina married Port o’ Call restaurant Maitre d’ Mr. Peter Jovetic in the early 1990’s, and became Gina Swainson-Jovetic. Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo García de Estefan is a Cuban-born American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. She started off her career as the leading vocalist in the group called "Miami Latin Boys" which was eventually known as Miami Sound Machine. Her breakthrough success with Conga in 1985 made her known worldwide. It won the grand prix in the 15th annual Tokyo Music Festival in Japan. This is also her signature song. In the summer of 1988 she and the band got their first number-one hit for the song "Anything For You". In March 1990, she had a severe accident in her tour bus. She made her comeback in March 1991 with a new world tour and album called Into The Light. Many of her songs like "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You", "1-2-3", "Get On Your Feet", "Here We Are", "Coming Out of the Dark", "Bad Boy", "Oye!", "Party Time" and a remake of Vicki Sue Robinson's "Turn the Beat Around" became international hits, with chart-topping scores. Estefan has sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide, including 31.5 million in the United States alone. She has won seven Grammy Awards. Estefan also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Las Vegas Walk of Fame. In 2015, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contributions to American music.
