sun bleached flies // Isilaith x Erihgos (former belongs to @deathwingthedestroyer)
(yap under the cut because boy is there a lot to say)
Erihgos and Isilaithion grew up together as one of the very first of the ordered dragons - Erihgos being late to hatch was instead grouped with a clutch of the Earth-warder's children to not be so alone. A bond formed swiftly between an inquisitive and outgoing Blue and timid Obsidian, friendship, romance, a little solace amidst of the Primalist war in which a dragon such as Isilaith was expected to fight in as the blood of Neltharion. Erihgos, born to be a scholar and explorer, has done all he could to make time spent together special. The two enjoyed stargazing together, many promises were made under the night firmament - some spoken aloud, some kept close at heart.
Such was Erihgos' desire to prove himself worthy of the heart that was his already by going above and beyond to show his dedication, to show he is deserving.
The young Blue's quest to impress his chosen bond has cost him precious time. Trapped in a foreign, forbidden corner of the Dragon Isles, he would lie in a stasis for millennia to come - all the while life would go on around him.
His disappearance left his love distraught, his family guessing and grieving. Centuries, thousands of years, tens of thousands have passed.
Isilaithion stood by his father's side as he slaughtered the family of his lost friend, bore the sins for the War of the Ancients, watched both bloodlines succumb to madness and fall eventually. Their secrets would lie undiscovered for a long, long time...
When the Dragon Isles called their children home, when the dracthyr awoke - so did Erihgos. Confused and frightened by a world he could not call his own anymore, discovering the irreparable loss his kin has suffered, the peace he believed he had lost by chasing ambition too hard, the Blue has broken in such a profound way that nothing could ever repair it. Displaced into a present he does not belong in, he simply existed and haunted Azeroth rather than living in it.
Until one day, the two crossed paths once more.
Changed, yet still recognising one another, slowly they rekindled the flame that once was - even if it would not be the same, even if there are things left unspoken but known deep down, their bond is absolute. They have none other than each other in this distant, hostile future the world they were made to protect is existing in.
Although he has not heard him say it, Erihgos knows Isilaithion must have had a hand in snuffing out the lives of his kin - it is a constant point of conflict and turmoil deep within himself, for he can see the regret and sadness in his love, and his loyalty for family is strong. At the same time, he has slept through an insurmountably long time and returned to something that feels like a fever dream - if he could still have his beloved by his side, if they at least still have each other, perhaps then he could forgive for the sins he never even got to witness...
No matter how Isilaithion resisted at first and insisted on being a lost cause, Erihgos chose love and loyalty. And no matter how hard times would become, he swore he would continue to do so.
(A little metacommentary addition: The stars disappear as the scene shifts from the two of them to the graveyard, but slowly return as Erihgos does too. The headstones and memorials, as well as the copious amounts of blood all symbolise the unspeakable things Isilaith and Erihgos have done and suffered, but still having the capability for gentleness and love towards one another, no matter the cost, no matter how difficult it is...)
