Day 90: anchored in the Port of Phuket, Thailand. Phuket is approximately the size of Singapore and it’s Thailand’s largest island situated off the west coat of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. It is connected to the mainland by a bridge. On the day I went through this bridge to visit one of Thailand’s main attractions, Khao Phing Kan, best known as James Bond Island. . James Bond Island in Phang Nga Bay, became famous in the 1970’s after it was featured in the popular James Bond movie “The Man With The Golden Gun”. After the movie became a blockbuster, tourists in Thailand began to show interest in visiting the islands. . Famous Bond Director Guy Hamilton headed to Southern Thailand in 1974. The external shots of Scaramanga’s Island lair were filmed in Phang Nga Bay and the islands of Ko Khao Ping Kan and Ko Tapu, aka James Bond Island. At the time the area was not yet a famous tourist attraction and there were many facilities available for the cast and crew of the movie with everything including food and water having to be flown in. . However, what many people don’t know is that the actual James Bond Island is relatively very small compared to the other islands that surround it. It’s the actual shape of it and the good camera angle what makes it look so impressive in the screen. There are other more impressive sights around the area, like the mangrove swamps, cave formations or the Muslim floating village of Kraby Town.
