International School of Louisiana - Westbank Campus Kindergarten, Drama & Social Studies Zeb Hollins III / Mrs. Victoria Recht

Students are learning about being a good citizen in their Social Studies class. The lesson began with the students, teaching artist, and classroom teacher traveling to Alphabet City, and Ms. Recht led a discussion on cultural differences. In-role as ‘Mr. Builder,’ Mr. Zeb prepared a separate group of ‘citizens' in the hallway to become the ‘Red Hots’. The Red Hots are loud, active newcomers who want to become citizens of Alphabet City. In-role as citizens, students voted on whether or not they can accept people who are different.  

‘Alphabet City’ is a guided drama (episodic) focusing on rules, community, differences, responsibility, and respect. Students learn about characters, settings, and storytelling.

In this video, students build their own personal space bubbles. We practice safe space by using our imaginations to build a beautiful, colorful bubble around us! Zoey leads the class in this section of our warm up as we build social/emotional skills such as taking turns and performance skills such as projecting our voices!

In Science, 2nd graders wrote a script about the north pole of a magnet looking to “attract” a friend! Luckily he finds the south pole of a magnet in the end!
