first art fight attack for the year!!! it is for DrawsCuteStuff whose username is quite apt bc this design (aisawa cherri) is peak.

attempted to make a ref for the first time in 10000000 years but unfortunately remembered that both drawing and character design are hard. was struggling so much that the last one i was just like fuck it i need an icon im just tracing emizel disgaea lmao. i'll probably still keep changing them... all that's really locked in is the glowy rainbow hood idk where that came from but it popped into my mind and i was like YES finally a design hook

anyway this is my hot new oc miru from a fabula ultima campaign my friend is running soon yippee!!! they are from the nation i made, umine, which is a deep sea place surrounding a Big Hole inhabited by ppl who are pretty adjacent to the deep ones from eo3. i knew my ass was gonna make a water place so umine's cultural throughline is "the water cycle" and the idea that everything once was, is, and will be each other eventually. it's been a lot of fun to thonk about so more deets below:

most ppl there use the royal we and they/them pronouns (miru included), death isn't considered a huge deal, there's a strong focus on community and the youth over individuals and tradition, everything made there is public domain, and there's a lot of pragmatism as no one individual is more important than ensuring a happier future for the largest amount of people possible to minimize the suffering the collective must experience. their prerogative is to spend any time spent not securing a bright future on relaxation and pleasure to maximize collective lived happiness. karma is baked into existence: if you hurt someone you will experience the other side of it when you live that life, dumbass!!

this puts them at odds w some of the other nations in the campaign bc two of them have a strong tech focus which they Do Not Like bc normal tech causes pollution and expenditure of non-refundable resources for things that mostly benefit individuals and magitek they feel "entraps"/exploits the great flow of souls so while it's better than normal tech it's not by much. tensions are pretty high bc the main tech place has been doing research into souls which umineans find Extremely Sacrilegious and believe will throw off the great cycle and cause everything to collapse bc the great mysteries must be preserved and respected can't you just trust bro??

i kinda compared umine to the hivemind from pluribus which is funny bc i made them before i watched but that vibe of being incredibly nice and friendly and loving and that being genuine but also fixated on getting people to join their paradise and willing to ignore/disrespect the autonomy of individuals for what they believe is best for all and being pragmatic to this end to degrees those outside of the collective would find horrifying is Pretty Much what umine is like lmao

anyway miru is an elementalist/spiritist with a minor in weaponmaster since i'm going for cool elemental spear slapper and they're on a hunter x hunter intro-ass ship on the way to an ancient continent that recently floated out of The Hole alongside the other party members bc they want to ensure that it doesn't get exploited by Tech Land and Magitek Land and is also there to scout it out and see if it holds some connection to the many problems that have plagued the world recently and whatnot

miru is a relatively standard uminean although they have kind of an extra uncanny aura... they have a dangerous smile and keep it on while making passive-aggressive comments about how "well maybe we'll understand where you're coming from when we're you" or whatever else. looking forward to rping this lil weirdo and see how they change or not and wtf is rly going on with them at all i'm keeping things p vague on purpose since a big part of fabula ultima is being able to retroactively define things!

all that is truly concrete is that they're a weird wet creature with a cool rainbow glowy hood and also they have bad vision bc they're an abyssal creature not used to all the surface light this is how i'm excusing the 1000000000000 misses i got in our test battle lmao. although one of the few times i did hit i got a crit it was sick af there was even a persona/fire emblem cut-in and everything... the dm has so many sick fuckin mods installed for foundry it's awesome:

new oc ref?? new oc ref!! this is piove fontana, daughter of a human and a water slime. how does that work?? everyone else is just as baffled as you are. she’s self-conscious about her heritage, though, since she fits in with neither humans nor monsters. even worse, she was hoping as she got older she’d look more human, but instead her body continues to “degrade” and in increasingly visible places, making it impossible to hide. as such, she’s something of a recluse and very shy, always afraid that people are going to harass her for not being truly one or the other

she currently attends hell college, where her dads are both teachers and where the medical staff keeps tabs on her. she’s reluctant about it, but her parents insist that it’d be better for her mental state than locking herself up all day and dreading her potential eventual fate. so please be friends with her, she needs friends A Lot!!!!

another ref sheet! this one’s for castalinde, a chastity slime who’s a native of the chastity layer of heaven college’s labyrinth but who found herself unwelcome as the school underwent a rapid shift into despising all monsters, even pacifistic ones like her. instead of fleeing, castalinde was granted a special staff by an unknown figure and set out to help the monsters in heaven college’s labyrinth find refuge elsewhere.

castalinde’s staff has the ability to transport souls, hence the perpetual glowy light! she can capture and release these souls as needed to help smuggle those in need out of dangerous places. the staff also allows her to teleport between a few points, though these points are unknown - and she’s glad for it, considering she needs to stay a cryptid for her plans to work.

she’s also versed in a number of forms of “pacifistic combat,” ranging from the creation of barriers to the dulling of emotions. she’s has a wide variety of healing spells as well. chastity slimes, like other chastity-class angels, have the ability to absorb sinful emotions and impulses from those around them, and castalinde is no exception; just being around her can instill someone with a sense of inner peace.

though to many she comes off as very serious and paranoid, it’s only due to the importance of her mission and the effect heaven college’s betrayal of her species and others has had on her. she’s actually incredibly kind, caring, and gentle, and anyone she rescues or otherwise comes to the aid of will know this. to everyone else, though... she just can’t afford to let her guard down.

i rly wanna draw more chastity slimes bc they’re fun... they combine the aesthetics of brides and nuns and pleasant garden fixtures but the white on white on white makes them kinda challenging for a novice like me to color and still look anything like a slime... also im sorry about the staff drawing straight lines is hard, im too gay to draw things straight
