Greetings from sunny Long Beach! I’m here for ISSE and want to share a few quick tips for networking at beauty shows! (Tap the bookmark icon to save this post for your beauty events this year!) ▶️ 1. Have a clear goal before you attend the show. Do you want to work with brands? Do you want to be a freelance writer for a beauty magazine? Or maybe you want to become a platform educator? Whatever your goals are, be crystal clear about them so you know who’s a priority to connect with at the show. ▶️ 2. Make a list of who you want to meet at the show. These expos are always HUGE and you may not have time to get to every booth or activation. Usually, you can find a Show Map or Show Directory online or on the first day of the expo. Map out your “must visit” list ahead of time. ▶️ 3. Engage on social media! If there’s someone you have connected with in person, follow them on social media right then and there! You can say, “Hey, I’d love to follow you on IG! What’s your page name?” Then, like a few posts and watch her IG Stories. Pro tip: snap a quick selfie together to post on YOUR stories and tag her! You can also DM her the selfie together with a short, professional message to stay in touch. (Even though you’re messaging on social media, always keep your tone and interactions in DMs professional! Then, follow up via email within 2 business days with a thank you message, your pitch, and relevant work samples.) I firmly believe that beauty shows and in-person events are the BEST way to network in the beauty industry. We live in a social media world, but there’s something special about seeing and interacting with someone face to face! What questions do you have about attending beauty shows or networking? I’m happy to help! Also...would you like me to make a template you can use for your follow-up email?
