Socrates tells us that, “Falling in love is a grave mental disease”. I don’t think so.
Every lover has experienced the intimacy of ‘two hearts that beat as one,’ a
kind of dialogue that alters hormones and physiology. This heart entrainment
produces an electro-magnetic field that extends far beyond the embracing
couple. It can be measured as far away as ten feet, and goes on infinitely but it is
most intense at eighteen inches, the spacing of intimate conversation.
Falling in love involves definite complex biochemical processes that account for
various experiences such as euphoria, the intense level of which subsides in
about a year to the level of couples in long term relationships. Falling suggests
that the process is inevitable as it is based on highly charged erotic attraction,
emotional solidarity and our olfactory senses.
It has been suggested and taught by every tradition and fairy tale since time
began that, ‘love is the answer’.
