#JackedKirby - Happy 95th Birthday Vinnie Boy!!! ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ Vincent Joseph Colletta would have been celebrating his 95th birthday today if he were alive. A career in the comic book industry and working side by side with The King of Comics cements Vinnieโs place in the comic pantheon for his contributions in inking, pencilling and never meeting a deadline he couldnโt hit! ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ Vinnie began work in comics in 1952 working for Better Comics... but his first attributed artwork alongside the King come in either Kid Colt Outlaw #Issue100 cover (Pic 2, Sept of 1961) or the cover of Love Romances #Issue98 (Pic 3, March of 1962) providing inks for both. He also inked the momentous Fantastic Four #Annual3 (Pic 4/5 from Oct of 1965) which features the wedding of Reed Richards and Sue Storm!!! ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ Vinnie and Jackโs most notable collaborations came on Thor. He inked the first Tales of Asgard back up story in Journey Into Mystery #Issue106 (July 1964, Pic 6) and started an almost complete run from Journey Into Mystery #Issue116 (Pic 7/8) May of 1965 until Thor #Issue167 (August of 1969) and Thor #Issue176-179 (Jackโs Final Issue). ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ His last hurrah with Jack came on the 4th World Titles, especially the iconic New Gods series (Pic 9). I love the title card from New Gods #Issue1 (March 1971, Pic 10). ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ Vinnie faces his fair share of critiques based on his alterations of Jackโs original pencils... but Jack must have liked him & his work or else why would he keep working with him? I particularly love his work on Thor... his 50+ consecutive issues on the run are right up their with Sinnottโs team up with Kirby on FF!!!
