Cheltenham Festival 2016 results: Ivanovich Gorbatov rallies past Apple's Jade to win the JCB Triumph Hurdle

Ivanovich Gorbatov gave Aidan O'Brien his first Festival winner since the mighty Istabraq when storming home in the JCB Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham. O'Brien's son Joseph, who has recently retired from riding, has been supervising the young hurdler's preparation ahead of getting his full training licence and Ivanovich Gorbatov, owned by JP McManus, delivered in style to give jockey Barry Geraghty his first success of the week. Istabraq, one of the greatest jump racers of all time. 

Born in 1992, sired by Sadler's Wells, out of Betty's Secret - a daughter of Secretariat. He was owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and later by John McManus, and trained by Aidan O'Brien during all his racing days. Over hurdles he always teamed up with Charlie Swan. Istabraq raced 40 times all in all, both in flat races and later over hurdles. His record on the flat was 11: 2-4-0. Over hurdles he had moew success, with a record of 29: 23-3-0, including 4 Irish Champion Hurdles (1998-2001), 4 December Festival Hurdles (1997-99+2001), and 3 Champion Hurdles (1998-2000).

He is honoured with the Istabraq Hurdle at Leopardtown. He currently lives at the Martinstown home of his owner, McManus.
