1. Dominant Introverted Sensation (Si)
Sophie is an extremely pragmatic person. She keeps to herself and deals with the facts around her. She internalizes all of her experiences and isn’t very quick to reveal how she actually feels about a situation. Though her Te can give her quite a sharp tongue.
The abstract is not a favorite of hers. There is the real world with real people and things that need to be done and sorted. She doesn’t have time for Howl’s flights of fancies. She isn’t wowed with spectacular visuals or great words. She provides practical help and appreciates the same in return.
Sophie is more present oriented in her manner. She does not deal it what could be or alternatives. She is great at working within situations she is already in and steadily moving forward with practical solutions.
2. Secondary Extraverted Thinking (Te)
Her Si grounds her in her present situations, but her Te is how she judges the world around her. She uses her skills and perceptions in order to serve the systems she finds herself in. There are ways things should be done and she isn’t too big on defiantly questioning them. This by no means implies that she does not challenge any norms, but she isn’t big to go out of her way to counter the culture. Everyone has a role to make the system function and she is content in serving her purpose within that. She does not need affirmation or accolades for her work.
She isn’t always aware of the feelings of those around her. This makes her quite funny when she is turned old and seems like part of her playing that role. But we discover that this is actually very Sophie. She makes choices that are logical and linear, and she feels no need to mince her words to consider the feelings of others. Sophie doesn’t have need to purposely take on the role of a peacemaker or be the diplomat.
At times this is to her determent, especially when dealing with the Witch of the Waste and other authorities above her station. She can be blunt and rather uncouth.
3. Tertiary Introverted Feeling (Fi)
With Fi lower in Sophie’s stack she isn’t always aware of her own feelings. She definitely can have a hard time in not just coming to understand them, but in articulating them to others. Sophie often has a hard time comforting those around her in the exact way they need. Her Te often coming off more blunt that she may have intended.
4. Inferior Extraverted iNtuition (Ne)
Sophie often doesn’t have time for the abstract eccentricities of Howl or the Witch of the Waste. This often is what causes arguments between Sophie and Howl, but also helps ground Howl when he has mentally drifted too far away. This also leads to the Witch not completely understanding Sophie. Sophie’s lack of vanity and needs for self gain can perplex the Witch and lead her surprised by Sophie’s actions.
Sophie also gets satisfaction from solving puzzles. Her puzzles include the spell she is cast under and the other mysteries that surround her in Howl’s castle. Her ability for concrete details, linear and logical thinking, and a peppering of her Ne to connect the patterns makes her perfect to help the gang out to solve these mysteries. She is able to see details that all the magic users in her life have overlooked.
