SEASON 5: EVEN (by @xionin)
“I’ve seen the darkest part of you, and you’ve seen the darkest part of me. I’m not going anywhere.”
i'm again engaging in discourse and putting myself into trouble but skam fandom is dying and i feel brave enough to write this now
@isxev
#remember when magnus asked who's the man and who's the woman when two guys are having sex?#to all you lovely magnuses #there is a man #and another man
that's the most ridiculous part; social media went furious on magnus and his question (and rightfully so) and made countless posts proving that he is homophobic, but that is exactly what fans have been doing from the start - they are assigning gender roles to each of them: isak is a bottom because he is younger and shorter and even is a top because he's older and taller. fic writers literally have to write a warning on top!isak because just the thought of a man topping triggers them.
(sterek and malec are also good examples; “shadowhunters” fanfics based on the books have top!magnus because he is older and more experienced and in fics based on the show alec is a top because, you guessed well, he's taller and more muscular than magnus).
(when tarjei changed his appearance for his markus role, fans on twitter and instagram pretended this is how isak looks now and were saying ‘he’s not anymore a sub bottom he is now a dom top *roll eyes*’
"do not kink shame my preference! (says a female)" i'm not kink shaming you, i'm calling you out on your heteronormativity and your misogynist and homophobic behaviour for thinking that in a relationship with two men (and two dicks) only one of them always penetrates.
s3 gave us both eskild and isak; one of them fits the media type on how gay men should look/looks like and the other one who doesn't. the point of that terribly worded discussion from 3x05 is that their different interests are both valid, they are both being themselves and are equally gay.
julie and mari were very well aware of stereotypes and fetishization and they deliberately put a clear shot of even's legs up isak’s torso in the hotel scene (19:32-19:34) but bottom!isak fans deny it because that doesn't fit into their woman/man dynamics. there is a scene about calling out fetishizers in 3x10 but again, fans either didn't get it or they pretend it doesn’t exist.
and the last but not the least: a trope that isak is shy and even is confident that stayed even after we’d gotten even's pov in 3x10 and 4x10. it literally took a month and a half for even to approach isak. isak was only shy (a better word would be nervous) in 3x01 because talking to your crush is always nerve-wrecking, and in 3x02 in the buss scene (because he didn’t expect it). in 3x02 he directly asked vilde when was next kosegruppa meeting going to be. in the same episode he went to even's and while still being in the closet he hoped something would happen. in 3x03 he was nervous about his first kiss with a boy (and now we know even was nervous as well) and in 3x04 he didn't run after even kissed him, on the contrary, they dived into the pool again and this time he was the one who initiated the kiss. in 4x10 we got even's pov and how insecure he is and how he thinks he's not good enough for isak.
isak is spoiled af but even loves him so much and wants to please him ('you’re the most demanding 18 year old I know ', 'i'll do it if it’s that’s important to you',’ I’m deciding, it’s my birthday ’ 'you'd call the film 'god' because it's about me'). you are saying that isak who plotted against his best friends to break them up because he liked jonas is shy. okay.
i live for the day when fanfictions and fanarts done by females are going to treat men in gay relationships as men, and not as a man and a woman (i admit they exist but sadly not enough).
