In It Chapter 2 we see Richie carve "R+" in a flashback but we don't see him finish it until Older Richie returns to re-carve it. Then we see the "E"

Stan’s favorite bird

After Stan dies, the Losers make him a little dedication spot at his favorite tree.The Losers decided that they wanted to honor him by putting a bird statue on his spot, but none of them knew what his favorite bird was so they ask Mike.

Mike is just like Stan never had a “favorite bird” he loved them all for different reasons and he could never decide. Mike had asked Stan this question multiple times over the years and never got a real answer he would always deflect or move on.

When the Losers get their letters they are all personalized and different, but at the end of each one there is a small PS.

P.S. Mike Hanlon always has and always will be my favorite bird.

When Richie goes to carve R+E he makes sure to stop by Stan’s tree and carve S+M.
