Heroes, Atlas, and Chamomile Tea

A long while ago, @iwillgetridofyourangerforyou​ asked the question: “What it means to be a hero?” I said a professional hero needs to be Atlas, meaning their job is not only to protect the people, but to hold up the sky. Here’s the post in which I explain what I mean by that. (It may help you understand some context for the rest of this post)

Never said it was an easy job

When it comes to heroes holding up the sky, the HA seems (or seemed at this point) to do that pretty well. Before the MA heroes seem to be pretty good at controlling the monster population, and making sure the people are safe. 

However, no one is going to be confident in their safety, unless they are told directly. That’s where Amai Mask comes in. 

Let’s look at the Deep Sea King arc, and this interview. 

I believe there is a certain importance in mental safety. It’s a little easier to go about day to day life when someones telling you they have your back, even if that’s not always the case. Sometimes, a little blind faith is healthy, especially when it comes to situations that are so out of a regular human’s control. 

Amai is so unreachable but reachable at the same time. He makes himself seem like the perfect hero, so all the people have something pretty to stare at while the HA does the dirty work. Granted, it’s hard to keep up that picture-perfect image. But he’s the hologram telling people it’s all okay. He’s the damage control. He’s the soothing voice that whispers words of love and kindness in the people’s ears, to make sure they can still fall asleep at night. Sometimes, it’s okay to get lost in a lie, if it makes sure you can still wake up the next day. He’s somehow the soothing chamomile tea, and the person who brings you the mug while you’re still in bed. And that’s not an easy job, because he brings everyone a mug.

That’s why I respect most of Amai Mask’s work*. He was not only Atlas, but was the main messenger of Atlas’s presence. 

*-(I do not respect every part of it, for example the black and white thinking and excessive force aren’t cool with me.)
