thinking back to when i was worried that nicki might just become the new white boy of the month and maybe overshadow armand and louis as the racist angle the show might take for tvl how naive i was.. did not realize they were so homophobic nicki would essentially get completely excised from the story and so racist they would do other character assassinations beyond my wildest imaginings

GOD i love the like entire final part of no pain so much like how u can literally feel louis and claudia walking into the jaws of death the insane cross cutting between louis thinking armands gonna kill him and claudia taking her coven oaths knowing and fearing how she has already broken them so severely... the dawning horror she will be cast forever as a child as armand tries to justify and lie to louis that she is forever lost due to being turned as a child........the hypocrisy of armand saying that.. the way the manhole cover again evokes claudias death the fire the implicit threats the whole way there and like the mirroring of the threat laden seduction of lestat in the beginning of the episode and his similar overtures to louis... armand cast as like the vampires vampire literally asking if he can be invited in and louis letting death into his house the crazy power play the way they block out all the light leaving them alone in shadow when they kiss.... insnae insane insane
not that anyone asked but as i have sat and contemplated what true blood vampire actors id cast as vampire chronicles characters but i think the correct casting choices are stephen moyer as david for you know vampire bigotry intertextuality here and the joke is that stephen moyer is actually british and then after a long time thinking about who alexander skarsgard could play and it does not please me to report but i think i must say he would be marius

literally having the worst fucking months of my life and then my cat gets sick you know just in case i was getting too secure in myself shes literally my rock shes my everything i genuinely love her so much and how she was there for me when i was like bouncing between homes and shit in may and june i dont think i would have survived that and i cant be there for her now and idk whats going on :(((
its so stressful having no clue whats wrong with her beyond that shes not eating and seems to be generally declining in ways that are scaring the shit out of me and its so out of the blue she went from happily eating a full meal to ignoring her favorite food and becoming extremely lethargic and somehow the thing im the saddest about is that she wont even meow anymore like that i may never hear her beautiful chatty voice ever again and we literally have no clue whats going on…

do you have a rec list of xena fics? im specifically interested in pre-ff.net and ao3 stuff. so fics from fan websites or livejournal or dreamwidth etc. if you don't, would you at least be willing to recommend some authors and/or fansites?
ok my favorite xena fics are storms of war which is a delightful long fic about how dark xena can go and the tensions in her relationship with gabrielle and has lots of lovely action and overwrought drama and also somehow xena and gabrielle never kiss they just have a bath and process all the shit they have seen and go to sleep and it rules! languedoc which is like a very fun fic about modern xena and gabrielle who are a nun and an academic digging up the history of like xena and gabrielle representations in history essentially and uncovering this old poem about medieval xena and gabrielle it was very very fun and kind of defines my ideas of intertextual xena fanfic :3c then in terms of big classics ive read theres infamia which had me riveted but i wasnt a huge fan of how the xena/gabrielle relationship was written but i found xenas crazy bisexual love triangle with cleopatra and marc antony riveting and in terms of classics that have gotten reposted to ao3 i have only gotten about halfway thru coup de grace but viviandarkblooms cities of illumination series about mel and janice is really well known and certainly worth checking out tho i dont have strong personal opinions on it
im honestly not that good about reading long fic so theres a lot of really classic stuff im missing out on im def not the best source for recommendations since ive simply not read that much BUT i am a good source for telling you how to find xena fics because i would consider myself somewhat of an expert in this field specifically so the rest of this answer shall be an informal guide to finding xena fanfic :3
the best still extant sites that are at least semi navigable and have a large repository of fics are the athenaeum, royal academy of bards, ausxip, and maybe tom's xena page im maybe missing some in between stuff but the first three especially are essentially the sources of most live links for still up xena fics on the web even if u find them from other websites they are all semi searchable ive liked the athenaeum the most its searchability but all of them have some ways to look for specific authors and some even based on popular fan genres such as mel/janice uber or conqueror fic
the next really useful source is lunacy's fanfic reviews i do not really agree with her taste and she only hosts reviews for fics that have endgame xena/gab with no other relationships in the story and id say about 90% of the links are dead BUT its one of the only main sources of fic you can find that gives you any kind of consistent descriptions of the content of the fics and her list of uber fics by content is really REALLY fun to look at to see all the weird aus people put them in
my other note for utilizing lunacy is since most of the links are dead your best resources are googling the names of the fics or authors with xena and fanfic OR inputting the links into internet archive and u can often find them thru other means
my next best source is fanlores list of xena fanfic websites this is a great source of links to sites that may no longer be online but have been successfully archived on internet archive and u can often have a lot of fun poking around and has been my main way ive found some really off the beaten path callisto fics ur not necessarily finding masterpieces here but it can be really fun to look around
for other weird stuff theres also whoosh! which has a number of interviews with popular fanfic writers articles on popular tropes and parodies of xena fanfic theyre essentially the amateur academic journal of xena studies with open fan submission and are delightful to poke thru but heres one of their fanfic specific issues to get u started if u wish to explore this area of fandom genuinely i love whoosh so much and this can alert u to some popular authors and well known fics etc
my main tips for xena fanfic is do not despair if u hit dead links the internet archive has a lot more fics than you think and reader mode in ur browser will protect you from all evils of terrible website formatting also ausxip in general has way more interesting other resources of archived fanart and other stuff theyre really really fun to poke around :3c happy searching
