Frigid wind howled against the child's back as she hobbled through Fahua temple's gates. Yet even with the extra push, hesitation clung to every step.
Begging for mercy? From strangers? She could almost feel her master's glare from beyond the grave. But master also never shied from reality. And right now, Jixing's reality was a burned hut, a body coated in bruises and blood, and one of the coldest winter nights she'd known in her short life. Her pursuers may be dead, but if she didn't find shelter, soon, she'd be joining them.
She would finally find another soul in the first hall - the only monk awake at this hour, she guessed.
"E-excuse me.." Her stomach churned at how small her voice became. "I'm sorry to disturb you.. but may I. maybe. stay here for a little bit?- I'll stay out of the way, it's just- I have nowhere else to go, and..."
It was a trifle matter, to attend service. to attend to everything, how easy monks fell to higher wisdom. One that common sense should serve. Despite the cold night, everything was warmer now within the temple. the small fires were tended, and Miaoshan walks still.
"Come."
a gesture.
"Closer, to the fire. You are very cold." a statement rather then request as he diligantly adds another log into the fire.
