you are allowed to use a character/thing's name twice in one sentence. i promise it's fine. the synecdoche/metonymy police are not coming for you. varied word choice is for verbs and adjectives, not nouns. if your sentences feel repetitive, try varying verbs and adjectives, or your sentence structure instead. re-labeling your character/thing every sentence is mostly just confusing.
this applies to both fictional and essay/academic writing. honestly worse in academic imo
(disclaimer: this is partly a personal opinion. writing trends vary & synecdoche is a tool like any other and can be neat sometimes, but also 'reader is confused' is less of an aesthetic thing)
