watching children’s STEM television is really strange
like, there is a desperation to instill affection that I also see in religious programming
C.S. Lewis was on to something when he argued that post-Enlightenment science is really more akin to alchemy; there is science that is knowledge for its own sake, but as often or more it’s about knowledge turned into technological power, with the technocrats as a kind of priestly class.
it gives me the creeps
#the five year old turned on Ada Twist#sCIEnce IS tHE bESt!!!#I mean if you want to be a scientist that's fine#but STEM is like#a Higher Calling#its veneration is disturbing#oh but Ivan science solves problems#it solves some problems#but how many of the problems it solves did it also create?#I'm just saying it's not unambiguous#it's not something you should throw out entirely#but it doesn't deserve the worship it gets
