It was a punch??!
I've watched it tons of times because it was a very Merthur episode even after the Arwen love confessions. But with a slight touch of angst and humour before Morgana turned evil. But I never clocked it as another punch.
Why on earth was Merlin punching Arthur when Arthur was clearly saving him from the guards? I thought Arthur just wanted to manhandle Merlin tbh. And also, that was super sweet, Arthur taking him to see Gaius.
Merlin doesn't even say thanks, or sorry for punching you without letting you explain. He runs to Gaius, sobs his heart out because Gaius might die and all the while, Arthur could possibly be just around the next corner listening to their conversation feeling all sorts of feelings about Merlin and magic and god he loves this fool who tried to punch him.
Also, this is about The Witchfinder episode in season 2.
