Part Two Part Three Part Four
You paced back and forth in your bathroom, counting the seconds that passed by. The two sticks sat proudly on the bathroom sink, just taunting you. You honestly couldn't wait any longer but your five minutes weren't up yet. Oh god, in just a few minutes your life would change for the better or worse and you weren't even prepared for it.
Your phone alarm went off, startling you and snapping you out of your thoughts. You practically jumped towards the sink, snatching the two tests and reading the clear signs. Positive. They were fucking positive, you're pregnant, you're actually pregnant. How could you have let this happen, how could you have been so careless?
How were you going to tell Tom? Tom, you forgot about Tom, what would he say about all of this? What would he do? Would he leave you? No, he loved you, sure it'd be a surprise but he wouldn't just leave you. Calm down and think this through, but what was there to think through, you were pregnant and there was the possibility that Tom would leave you.
You heard the front door to the house shut, once again interrupting your thoughts. You hid the pregnancy tests with the other two before exiting the bathroom to greet your boyfriend. Yes other two, yesterday you took two tests but completely in denial you decided to try again. I mean those things give out false positives all the time.
"Hey babe," You said, using a cheerful tone so you wouldn’t cause suspicion.
He gave you a smile along with a hug and a kiss to the cheek, which you gladly returned. When you pulled away, he had a hard look on his face, one that worried you greatly.
"You okay?" You asked.
"Yeah... No actually I'm not," He replied. "Let's sit."
You heart started pounding hard against your chest, you could already tell he was going to say something you weren't going to like. The two of you sat on the couch, you waited patiently as he mustered up the courage to say what he need to.
"Well, you know how I told you that I got the role of Spider-Man?" He started off. You nodded and urged him to continue. "Well I knew that it was going to be busy, but I didn’t anticipate how busy it'd actually be."
"Okay, what are you getting at?" You asked cautiously.
"I think it's best if we break up," He said. In that moment you felt your whole world shatter, part of you was hopping that you hadn't heard him correctly. "Let me explain, this film is going to take all of my time, and we won't be seeing much of each other. I know this isn't an excuse, but you deserve someone who's going to be there for you and be able to make time for you. Right now, I won't be able to, I don't think I'll even be able to be in a relationship for a while. I'm sorry {Name}, I love you, I really do, but you deserve better and I can't give that to you right now."
You listened to his words carefully, feeling tears prick at your eyes but you didn’t dare let them go. You would have fought him on this, you really would have, but you knew whole heartedly that he was right. This movie was going to take everything in him and he needed to concentrate on this. The last thing he needed to deal with was a pregnant you, and eventually a baby.
"You're right," You softly let out.
Tom looked at you with a hurt expression, like he was hoping that you'd fight him, that you'd do everything in your power to make this relationship work. He never expected you to just agree with him, he had hoped that you'd at least put up some sort of a fight. But it didn't change the fact that everything he said was still true, this film would take away his time from you. So maybe it was a good thing that you agreed so quickly.
"I'll go pack a bag then," You said.
You went to get up but Tom stopped you. "Don't be silly I'll go, you stay."
"No, it's okay, this is more your place anyway," You told him before heading off towards your shared room.
You felt the tears streaming down your face the whole way there, and they continued as you packed some clothes into a duffle bag. You wiped them away before you went back into the living room where Tom was waiting the whole time. He saw you coming and wiped at his face, wiping away his own tears, before standing up.
"I'll uh, I'll come back later for the rest of my things," You told him, you didn't even wait for his response before leaving.
You pulled out of the driveway, figuring that if you were going to cry then you should do it somewhere privately. You found yourself parked outside of an apartment complex, the one your best friend lived in. You didn’t have anywhere else to go, your parents were miles away, and there was limited amount of people you knew.
You were in your car for a solid fifteen minutes, crying your heart out, part of it could probably be blamed on hormones. You wiped at your face before picking yourself up and getting out of your car. You were hoping that your friend would let you stay with her for a while.
You stood outside her door and mustered up the courage to knock, waiting patiently after you did. When she did, she was so happy to see you but her face fell once she saw the state you were in.
"Hey, what's wrong?" She asked.
"Can I stay here for a bit?” You asked her.
She immediately nodded and moved aside to let you in, she placed a hand on your back and guided you towards the couch, seeing as you needed it. She looked you over, seeing how distraught you are and that you had an over night bag with you, she knew something happened with Tom.
“Tom and I, we broke up,” You told her.
“What, why? What happened?” She asked.
“His schedule is going to be busy for a long while and well, he said it was best that we broke up. He told me that it’s for the best, that since he’d be so busy, there wasn’t going to be much time to spend together. It’d be best if we broke up, he said I deserved someone who could be there at any moment and he can’t do that right now,” You explained.
“Well did you tell him that bull, because it is. That isn’t an excuse to break up with you, if he really wanted to, he’d make time no matter how busy,” She was fuming.
“Lex, he’s completely right,” “What, that’s no-” “Lexie, I’m pregnant!”
The room went silent as she stared at you in shock, unsure of what to say. “Okay! So are we happy about this or are we exercising our legal right to choose?”
“I don’t know how to feel about this, I’m not even completely sure if I’m pregnant, I mean those things give out false positives,” You told her, on the brink of tears again. “Wait a minute, did you just quote Grey’s?”
“Yes I did,” She said, making you laugh a little. “But uh, how many did you take?”
“Four. Two today, two yesterday. All positive.”
“Well fuck, yeah no you’ve been knocked up,” She responded.
You were back to crying once she said that. “Oh god, what am I supposed to do!? I mean I’m only twenty and I still have school! Oh god, I messed up, I really messed up!”
“Hey, hey, hey, you haven’t messed up,” Lexie reassured you, placing her hands on your shoulders to calm you down. “Look, I know this isn’t how you planned it but a baby isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Take some time to think about this thoroughly, if you decide to keep it, I’ll be more than happy to help. If you want to terminate than I’ll be by your side and I’ll hold your hand the entire time.”
Lexie cupped your cheeks gently, using her thumbs to wipe away your tears. You nodded at her words, finding great comfort in them, she was right, you just needed to slow down and think it through.
“Okay, good. Lucky for you, my roommate just moved out and I have a spare bedroom. I was going to put out an ad for a new roommate but it’s yours if you want it,” She told you.
She stood up before helping you stand up and leading you to the bedroom. There was an empty bed and a small dresser that her roommate had left. Lexie explained to you that her ex-roommate had moved in with her boyfriend and didn’t see it necessary to bring the bed or another dresser.
“I’ll bring you some bedsheets and let you unpack. Have you eaten? After you finish we can get some dinner,” Lex said.
You nodded at the idea, and once you agreed she left you alone to your thoughts. You were going to be okay right?
