Aro culture is hating when characters act as if being friends with benefits is lesser than a romantic relationship.
.
my fave bai/zhu theory is him just actually being some guy with a pet snake that talks and a zombie daughter. that's it. he's just a dude vibing in liyue.
exterra prompts!! maybe something to do with hands? holding hands, bandaging, hand kisses idk just s. something
Fwhip intertwined their hands. "I love you." He said, shifting his hold so he could pull his knuckles near his lips and give light smooches.
"I love you a thousand times." He said again, and again - and he thought he couldn't stop himself, he loved him too much and he was finally able to say it - they were about to reach their ending points, they were finally here, so he repeats over and over, until his voice grew small. "I love you."
"Joel?" He questioned, lifting his head from the other's chest after noticing the lack of answers. "Joel are you here with me?" He questioned again, cracking and concerned.
Joel groaned, opening his eyes at the muffled words that could barely reach his ears. "what?" He asked, squinting through the blurs of his vision and the fire surrounding them. "what did you say Fwhip?"
And Fwhip thought he's been through too many things to crumble from words alone. "Joel, are you here with me?" He repeats his former words, his pleads blending into the sounds behind them but they fell silent to him, only being able to comprehend his voice and his. "Yeah. . . I'm here" Joel answered unsurely.
Fwhip wasn't sure what to say, "That's good." He pushed himself to put into words, but he couldn't resurface his confidence from earlier on to ask if he heard.
"What were you saying before?" Joel asked, pulling his hand away from Fwhip's and rubbing his eyes. "I was knocked out pretty good."
And he couldn't think of anything, He wanted to say 'I love you, I told you that I loved you.' but as the king stared at him through bruised eyes, He said. "I was comforting you" and left it at that.
You said that aidairo made some writing mistakes, what are those mistakes?
Man, I do not remember the context of when I said that but eh, here’s what comes to mind at the moment.
I consider Hanako of the Opera to be a mistake because Kou is super OOC, but again, result of voting. However the fact the ending isn’t like outright sad instead of bittersweet is pretty insidious to me like... What happened to Mitsuba was...mutilation... It’s mentioned he literally can’t sing the way he used to. That Kou did that to him and didn’t face any immediate consequences and/or backlash is super uncomfortable and skeevy. So, yeah, a mistake. I really wish the Kou ending hadn’t been written so badly. Rip us for ending up with it, but maybe the other endings were even worse... We may never know. I still would like to see them...
Anyway. Hanako of the Opera’s a side mode and clearly wasn’t super fleshed out so tbh while the Kou ending is terrible, I wouldn’t say it overall has an effect on one’s enjoyment of the main series. I mean, again, it’s a side mode. A lot of people probably won’t ever read it as its story hasn’t even been recorded in the tankobon as far as I’m aware.
If only that were my biggest issue with the series.
Yeah.
So.
Akane “Glasses” Aoi is a mistake.
In a series where the main romance hinges on compassion, empathy, and respecting the girl’s choices and autonomy, having a heroic character who is not only entitled and selfish but also isolates the unfortunate girl he’s obsessed with through violent means is...
Well, when that’s treated as okay, it sticks out. This behavior being treated as okay would be bad even in a series where the main romance is abusive, but to have that here when the main romance does convey themes of healthy communication and has an entire fucking arc about Hanako being in the wrong for holding Nene captive against her will regardless of his good intentions....
It’s more than a little grating. It’s inconsistent for one thing. Like, if it’s not okay for Hanako to force his will upon Nene to keep her safe like... Shouldn’t Akane terrorizing away any dude who shows remote interest in Aoi be like...way less okay? If Kou’s allowed to stay friends with Nene in spite of his crush on her, why the fuck can’t Aoi have other male friends who are attracted to her? It’s super creepy, especially since none of the guys who’ve shown interest in Aoi are like...y’know, bad people. They’re decent as far as I can tell, as they’re Kou’s friends. And that’s not even getting into the time where Akane tried to kill Lemon because Aoi thought Lemon was cool like...
Jfc, Tsukasa has shown zero empathy and is the most outwardly villainous character that we currently have but even he’s not as entitled and possessive as Akane is. Seriously, what the actual fuck, AidaIro.
(Fun thing to think about: Aoi literally feels suicidal due to how isolated she is. I’m not saying Akane’s entirely to blame for that...but he sure as shit is a factor in it, just logistically speaking seeing as how he actively dissuades people from getting close to her.)
(Note: Some of this refers to side-material, in particular the examples are from Hanako-kun After School, but given that it’s a consistent part of Akane’s character that he’s violently possessive of Aoi in both the main story and multiple AUs, it’s a lot harder to overlook these instances compared to Hanako of the Opera.)
...Also, Akane’s a shithead to Nene. He assaulted her twice just to get to Hanako and only agreed to help her not die young because he thought it’d score points with Aoi eVEN THOUGH THIS FUCKER MADE A WHOLE FUCKING STINK ABOUT HOW SUPERNATURALS TRIVIALIZE HUMAN LIVES. Goddamn, fuck this guy. He’s a hypocrite on top of everything else.
He really is the worst thing in terms of writing (because he’s shallow and hypocritical and the writing lacks the awareness to engage with those traits sincerely) and sensibilities. If he gets called out and dealt with maturely in these next chapters, I’ll happily eat my words but like...
I haven’t seen any reliable sign of that happening... =m=;;
Just wanted to say that “stay frosty royal milk tea” by Fall Out Boy is just like,, totally Loki’s anthem.
