Love the fact that everyone's acting surprised that the We-Dump-Shit-In-The-Water country has had an outbreak of There's-Shit-In-The-Water disease.
I hate the fact that water bottle manufactures are seemingly incapable of understanding that making something out of glass does not magically render the laws of physics no longer applicable
I have a plastic water bottle which I have had for years
It's started leaking, and I decided to see if I could get one like it but made of glass, which would be both more eco friendly and less likely to flavour the water
Unfortunately, I have found approximately zero glass water bottles with all of a) a locking, flip lid, b) an absent or removable straw, and c) an air hole to allow the water to be consumed without being sabotaged by vacuum
Apparently being glass, they don't seem to need this! I am furious
Why have manufacturers decided it's fine to produce a gazillion near-identical glass bottles with tiny smooth lids, in my opinion the least practical of all water bottle designs, but not one of them has gone 'you know our widely sold plastic water bottles with the flip lids? Let's make some out of glass and sell them as the eco friendly option!'
It's madness, and I am furious
i'm preaching to the choir here but why the FUCK is modern TV like this
i know they're both night scenes but still, i had to slap two screen layers and three adjustment layers on each of these shots just to pull the not-blue colors even a LITTLE BIT to the surface so i could START playing with the coloring for the gifset
I wish I could meet someone on this site and fall head over heels in love and everything the whole thing travel to meet them get married even I want a love story ... , alas, yadda yadda something something the mortifying ordeal of being known...
sci-fi is going to save our tender bits, one day, i hope
as a person who was recently required to have a mammogram, i feel like some of our more intimate preventative and diagnostic care should be better than it is. mammograms, internal ultrasounds, pelvic exams, prostate exams. . . there’s a reason people have come to dread these things. the invasiveness of preventative medical care is such a common experience that it’s a cliche. a bad joke. and we just. . .keep going back for more. because this is what we have, and it’s The Best, right? cutting edge stuff. is it, though? is anybody working hard on ALTERNATIVES to the robotic breast-smashing torture device, or the cold-hand-ball-pinching test? when people who actually CAN get regular check-ups routinely put off a lifesaving exam (putting it off for years, in some cases) because it’s so widely considered to be painful, humiliating, even triggering. . .maybe it’s time to reevaluate the technology. sure, social mores play into how comfortable we feel with our own bodies, and about being exposed in front of people. that’s something we also struggle with. but . . .is it so wrong to believe that pain should not be an expected part of diagnostic care? i knew my mammogram was going to hurt like a bitch. and it did, fucking hell did it hurt. in the 15 minutes it took, i cried twice. and i have to go back and do it again. because this cutting edge technology has 35-40% return rate, meaning that 35-40% of the time the results are unreadable, and patients have to come back and do it again. my favorite part of Thor: The Dark World was when the Asgardian physicians administered a full diagnostic exam on Natalie Portman with their soul forge, or whatever, and our girl didn’t even have to take her jewelry off.
i’m willing to bet that Princess Shuri has set the standard of compassionate care in Wakanda. meaning no one in this city has ever cancelled a doctor appointment from fear of pain. no one under Shuri’s watch ever laid back and white-knuckled it through a “wellness” exam with a medical-grade hand blender.
i’m just saying, patients shouldn’t feel that because they know less about medicine than their doctors that they have no basis for complaint. if a practice routinely causes mental or physical pain, patients have a right to demand alternatives to that practice. if real-life scientists, inspired by sci-fi concepts, can build computer tablets and self-driving cars and VR devices. . .can’t they also build painless, non-invasive diagnostic tools?
The issue with most of the younger SW fans on the internet is they think this series is ship-driven and not plot-driven. They think JJ wants ship A to be canon and Rian wants ship B to be canon. JJ will never make ship B canon because he prefers ship A. Like, no. Lucasfilm's long term goals, as well as certain pre-established themes and elements, are the things that determine where the story is going. Star Wars directors don't give a damn about ships.
^^^^EXACTLY. and I think it’s because so many of them were fandom-raised on tv shows, where the story is stretched out over dozens and dozens of episodes and many years, where writers come and go and character consistency is often sacrificed to plot, and creators are often scared to keep romantic couples together lest viewers lose interest from lack of drama. people talk about what writers ship on tv shows because a lot of them weren’t there in the beginning, because the story is being ever-formed, and their personal opinions could affect the writing for a ship, and then affect it again when they leave and new writers replace them.
by contrast, this is a film trilogy which has been planned and written by a very small, consistent group of people, most of it before the general audience even saw the first film. there is no “this writer ships A” and “this writer ships B”–there’s just canon relationships written with intention and consistency and forethought.
