Uh, oh, okay that joke I was going to build up to seems to have gone in an ENTIRELY different direction and I'm very sorry if I seemed like I implied that abusive relationships were alright, or if I crossed any lines or hit any buttons I was not aware of with my poor sense of attempted humor. This is a good learning experience for everyone involved: me, because apparently the family thing is a much rawer spot for me right now than I realized, and you, because if you’re making a joke on a text-only platform you often have to put some thought into how it’ll be received with no tone, body language, or familiarity to support it. Buildup doesn’t work as well on anon because I don’t know you, my dude. If a close friend sent me a message like that I would probably hear them out and enjoy the goof, but! You gotta be clear about intent with stuff like that if you’re on anon, using a text only medium!

In fairness, I also had a much stronger reaction than I might have, say, two months ago, and you had no particular way to know that my situation has changed somewhat in recent weeks.

Don’t crucify yourself on this one, anon, we all make mistakes and no real harm was done. For all that I’m a bit ragged on the family thing lately, I’m a grown adult who’s been to plenty of therapy. Just live and learn, my friend, no one can ask for more than that.
