@jayleeg since you blocked me before i got the chance to point out how full of shit you are, here’s what I was gonna say:
I really appreciate the fact you tried to rebut my argument by linking me to an article that - judging from the abstract - mentions nothing on the topic of how hypermasculinity affects platonic relationships between men in works of fiction. Like, I’m honestly reeling. I bring up depictions of men in media and you send a link to a study of inner city teenage boys and their coping responses. and ftr? If you’re having an argument about white male fictional characters, it just might not be a good idea to bring up real life, mostly likely black boys. :) I mean maybe I’m wrong! maybe it isn’t anything to do with what is mentioned in the abstract! I can’t actually find out because the full study is behind a fucking paywall.
I said that platonic relationships between men are the most valued in the media ‘cause it’s true so pretending we’re besmirching its honour by reading certain male friendships as romantic is ludicrous. Someone expressed themselves in a much better way than I could here.
“No one is telling you who or what to ship. Criticism of how a pairing is being portrayed does not equal ‘you cannot ship this pairing together ever’. JFC.” - let’s be real, 95% of all “ur ship is problematique, sweaty” posts are passive aggressive attempts at getting people to stop liking them. but w/e. mostly i’m just angry as hell about you two not only using black characters as proof against any potential homophobic biases (the kind that are rife in anti-stucky arguments) but also using a study on actual real life black teenage boys (’cause we all know what “ low-resource urban” is code for) to make your point.
