Yup, there's absolutely no plot relevance to a character in this setting developing typophobia.

It's just a silly fear he has for no real reason.

There's absolutely no way that anything he's seen in the circus could have caused him to develop such an "insignificant" phobia.

The steel-stemmed snapdragon was named for its usage of qi to prevent damage, making the entire plant ridiculously durable.  That said, it wasn’t impossible to cut the plant, if you really wanted to.  You just needed a particular application of qi, applied by either one of the dozen species who had the steel-stemmed snapdragon as part of their regular diets... or a talented cultivator.

There was a interesting usage of the plant that was immensely practical, if you were talented enough to unlock it.  If you were the talented cultivator in question, you could, through further particular applications of qi, trick the plant into thinking you were a part of it.  As such, it would extend its durability to cover you.
