Senya — Itachi's theme — has to be the saddest piece of music I've ever heard. It's haunting, melancholic, mysterious, and speaks volumes about him. It's about someone who believed his only salvation was in dying at the hands of the person he loved the most — his beloved little brother.
The song bleeds with guilt and regrets and a millions of what ifs. it's an apology letter written to the people he loved and knew, but it was never sent. Accompanied with the sadness there's a heavy, ominous strain in the background (the Akatsuki theme), marking the presence of what he represnts. He's the harbinger of death after all.
Every time I listen to it, it makes me feel I'm walking in a dark street bereaved of sunlight and hope, inhibited by the sad ghosts who died young. And it's constantly raining. However, it's not water perching the earth. It's blood. And every drop of blood soaking my skin tells the stories of someone who, in his short life, suffered immensely... someone who walked in the dark, and endured the heaviest of the burdens that shouldn't have been his to begin with.
I believe in all his illusions he created to hide his truths (or lies), this music is his only reality. It's a souvenir, a parting gift he left behind for those who love him. He might not be around anymore, but his legacy continues.
No matter what, I will love him always.
