Omg you are Spanish? Idk why but since we first interact under a My Briliant Friend post I assumed you were Italian ahaha. Anyway I'm happy to see that Lila and Lenù are loved in all Europe, I bought the first book before it became popoular and I'm so excited about the fourth season 😭

Hahaha, sorry for being culturally deceiving! Our girls are appreciated in many corners of the world - I've met Russian, Chinese, French and Brazilian fans, to name a few. I think it's amazing that despite the core Italian-ness of the saga, there is also something universal for a lot of people.

I have the latest Ferrante books in Italian now and I'm glad to be able to pick up a lot of linguistic and cultural nuances that I wasn't aware of. The series also got me interested in contemporary Italian history, politics and literature. I am usually curious about other languages and cultures but those two really opened some doors for me.

I also have an unhealthy obsession with Swedish and German authors (currently not in that phase), but I think that my flowery English screams "native romance language speaker", so it is unlikely that anyone would mistake me for any of those 😁

I am also very excited about the fourth season but also scared and honestly glad that we have some rest between seasons! I wouldn't be able to watch a 3x02 episode every week.

One of the nice things of this hellish blue site, is that you can see photos from every corner of the globe. In some areas of the planet it still snows heavily in mid-April, in some places wildlife comes up to your door, the southern hemisphere is going towards winter, while in the northern hemisphere we’re going towards summer.

These photos make me think about how much diversity there is in the world, in the places we live in, in our houses and in our lifestyles. It’s fascinating, I think. Each of us is unique in its own way, as an individual and as a people. Some features are impressive, others are moving, others can make us smile.

Here is the reason for these photos: to bring you a little smile in these dire times. They were taken in the new financial district of Milan. As you can guess, it’s a elegant, posh area, certainly made for people with the big money. And then, while I was looking at these expensive, immaculate and somewhat impersonal skyscrapers, suddenly I noticed a trace of Italianness that made me smile: the drying rack for clothes!

I know that abroad, especially in North America, it’s not common, people would rather use the tumble dryer. Instead in Italy the tumble dryer isn’t a common appliance in our houses, but in almost every house (and also in some vacancy residences and hotels) there is a drying rack for clothes. And if your apartment is too small, then you pull a wire on the balcony to hang the clothes. In the very narrow streets of some cities, the wires are pulled from one building to another and it becomes an integral part of the urban landscape.

It’s… a reassuring view, in a way. Perhaps it’s because the clothes dried in the open air have a particular smell, perhaps it’s because everyone does this, has always done this, and therefore it comes naturally to us to do it, no matter if we have the big money and live in a posh flat complex, this is an intrinsic trait of our Italianness always returns: the drying rack for clothes.

And what about you? Is there something that makes you say: “Ah, this is tipically German, French, Finnish, Russian, etc...” ?

Day 29 - A song that reminds you of childhood

so shocking fact #1.  I grew up in a pretty big Italian family.
