You people can claim that Tumblr is better than Twitter, but let's get one thing straight: If Matthew Mullenweg had money to burn and influence to flex, we'd be going through the exact same thing that Twitter is going through. The only thing keeping that man from being fully open about his moral beliefs and desires for this site is the knowledge that doing so while the current user base is dominant would kill the site and put his company so far in debt that his great-great-grandchildren wouldn't even be able to get a loan.

Thomas Bernhard using italicized words (and big quote gestures) to build a micro here. Unreadable --> unactable--> unwordly. I love this one for giving an example of how newspaper & obit language can be mobilized in prose.

I do love it—all the buzz of a feuilleton with the intense scornful undertow of a Bernhard. Tiny deconstructions of language and bourgeois normalcy.
