Aw come on I love ichihime so much but I really thought both ships had an equal chance of becoming canon :')

It’s funny because this post is actually in reaction to  a conversation you had with another bleach fan that popped up in the ichihime search  . 

Sorry buddy but no . I 10000% disagree with you on this . Ichigo and rukia had always been presented by the narrative as a friendship . IN THE MANGA ( not talking about the anime , colorspreads or merchandise) ichigo and rukia were always presented as friends . There was never anything more . No baiting , no nothing  . 

Of course people misunterpreted it because contrary to great bonds like that ( blair and serena in Gossip girl , scott and stiles in Teen wolf , Christina and meredith from grey’s anatomy ) it was composed of people of opposite sex ( heteronormativity when you hold us ) . 

That , added with the aforementioned ship tease from the anime , the merchandise ,the studio pierrot , the musical ... is what created romantic ichiruki . 

But romantic ichiruki never existed within the manga . Kubo had always been crystal clear about where he was going in terms of pairing . Every single one of ichigo’s and orihime’s interractions were meant to be romantic because : 

We knew Orihime was in love with ichigo 

Ichigo treated orihime differently than his other friends and yes of course that was open to interpretation but we knew FOR A FACT she was different . Why ? The ichihime fandom choose to believe it is because he liked her all along and was proven right in the end 

Some of their scenes left no place to interpretation as to wether it was supposed to be romantic or not . To give you a non exhaustive list : when he swore to protect her  and only her and was shown only apologizing to her even though chad and tatsuki had also been hurt, the way he seemed to have died on the inside when she was taken away into Hueco mundo , the whole grimmjow fight , the lust arc , chapter 589 and a lot of others . 

Those scenes were often misinterpreted by the fandom to twist them into something they weren’t but put yourself into the mind of a casual reader never involved within any fandom or ship war . Your natural reaction will be to say it was meant to be romantic . And it was . 

The problem in the bleach fandom is that the Ichiruki fandom had a tendency to put all the extra material to the same level than the manga . To them this filler episode is meant to be just as canon as the grimmjow fight let’s say . But no , the manga , the actual manga was always clear . Platonic Ichiruki . Romantic Ichihime . 

So to try to reduce the gap between the two ships the ichiruki fandom went into over analyzing every single moment between ichigo and rukia and to force it to become romantic . 

Of course they found great things for their ship into their interractions because ichigo and rukia actually have a deep and meaningful friendship . Except they forgot it was meant to be a friendship and not love . 

To get my point across I will give you a few quotes from the great friendships I gave as an example earlier . Try to imagine ichigo and rukia had actually said that to each other . And then imagine the reaction of the Ichiruki fandom if ichigo and rukia had actually said that to each other . 

“ You are my person” Christina and Meredith 

“ Right now ,I’m exactly with the person I want to be with” ( Serena to Blair ) 

“ I love you . You’re my best friend in the whole world” ( Stiles to Scott ) 

And of course the quote I think fit the very best the relationship ichigo and rukia have in canon and that I wanted to make into an edit for a long time but I don’t do it because I know people will think it’s meant to be romantic but no 

“ You were the first face this face saw . You’re seared unto my heart Rukia Kuchiki” ( The doctor to Amelia , changed the names to get the point accross)

You see all those sentences are meant to express a great love , but a great platonic love . Those are sentences for someone so very very very important to you . You love those person so very much but you aren’t in love with them . 

Sadly if those sentences had actually been pronounced by either ichigo or Rukia to each other the fandom would have taken it for an undisputable proof of romantic feelings for each other .

I think ichihime fans really don’t understand that ichiruki was very possible, especially if Kubo was given more time to flesh out the ending, and the IH fandom has been acting kinda stuck up as a result D: personally wished that Kubo left it open but I am glad to see the human gang +renruki content and happy! Kinda sucks that we didn’t get closure on urahara and yourichi though :(

I felt the exact same way about the pairings in Naruto: I was always a NaruHina shipper, but I was dead certain Kishimoto was going to go with Sakura and Naruto in the end. He teased it so much that I honestly saw no way it wouldn’t happen (except maybe at the very, very end), but I still liked NaruHina better because I thought they were a better fit *shrug* And sure, I was happy they got to be endgame, but I would’ve liked a LOT more interaction if that was always his plan.

Same situation with Bleach, or any fandom, really.  There’s nothing wrong with saying “Sure, I can see the evidence for X pairing, I just prefer Y pairing.”

(( I will also admit to having a soft spot for RenRuki as well )) 

Like you said, if Kubo was forced to wrap things up quickly and had to make shortcuts, it would’ve been far better to leave it open-ended.  

Re: Kisuke and Yoruichi, tbh I’d prefer Kubo doesn’t touch them because I’m terrified he’ll kill them off, or do something even worse than Thunderkitty!Yoru :/ Those rumored ‘3 extra pages’ in the last volume (plus the volume sketches) have me on pins and needles.

Hey I see you've been getting a lot of hate from IH fans!! As an IH fan myself, i'm very ashamed of my fellow fans' behavior and I would like to apologize on their behalf! It's okay to have different opinions on ships :)

As I mentioned in another post just a few minutes ago, I already know not all of you guys are like this. And it’s not like I haven’t seen all those disgusting posts from IR fans who call Orihime any number of terrible names. Horrible fans can be found on either side of any debate, so thank you for being one of the (many, I’m sure) sensible fans who don’t like to stir up trouble and simply wanna enjoy their ship.

You have nothing to be ashamed of, nor do you need to apologize. Anyone who uses the isolated rants of certain fans to form an opinion over the entire fanbase is woefully misguided.

I really do think Ange and her facial reactions was what really made Rifyu’s umineko 4koma so awesome. My favorite is the one of kid Ange making that derpy face while she’s drinking milk (the one 4chan uses for their ads).

It's quite a vast contrast to her canon personality tho. Boy was I shock to know that when i was starting to get into Umineko years ago.
