Black lives matter.carrd.co - I was taught that compassion and being kind were important traits to have. Everyone has value, everyone needs to be heard. As an art teacher I find art to be a powerful tool. It educates, enlightens, and gives a voice to those who may have felt they didn't have one. It has brought change, light, and hope. With it I try to teach my students empathy, compassion, expression, and creativity. Being an art teacher I want to present relevant art and artists. With what is happening right now I wanted to share some of my favorite Black artists. I highly recommend looking into these artists and their work. - Top left is Mickalene Thomas a contemporary artist known for her use of rhinestones, acrylics, and enamel in her paintings. Her work draws from Western art history, Pop Art and visual culture to examine ideas around femininity, beauty, race, sexuality, and gender. - Bottom right is Yinka Shonibare an artist that explored cultural identity, colonialism, and post colonialism with the contemporary context of globalization. - The poster was created by Lissa Brown - #arteducation #iteachart #artteacher #artseducation #artteachersofinstagram #artistssupport #artistsupportartists #artistssupportingartists #blackoutday2020 #blackouttuesday #yinkashonibare #mickalenethomas #blackartists https://www.instagram.com/p/CA8ZI5oh1aN/?igshid=1n3nh3xoslqfd
