There ARE options besides tomestones, and it can be useful for glamour as well as leveling.

Ala Mhigan gear is the ilvl 310 gear that was available immediately upon hitting 70 and having enough of the first level of tomestones for StB. The vendors’ menus will change to add in new gear options as the patches progress, usually on even-numbered patches when the tomes shuffle:

They’re also just good for gil and experience points, especially when leveling alt jobs and needing a break from roulette/trusts, and you can hit up FATES while at it (in ShB and EW, with the Shared FATES and bicolored gem currency, very handy). You can bank a decent amount by the time you’re at cap--and if you don’t need the gear, you can always give it to Retainers who’ve trained a combat class for Ventures.
