I wandered in thru a link on an old picture of Kanda Yu and while looking around I saw your note about shipping. You have no idea how happy it makes me to find someone else on tumblr who doesn't ship for the sake of shipping. Canon pairs are fine but I always windup wondering just what do other people see when it comes to non-canon pairs that I don't.

Well... Romance is a nice thing, and it can make story more thrilling when it’s well made. But I really don’t see the point of overthinking such stuff either. My favorite romantic plots are just a subtle hints of what may be between the characters, that makes a good space to FAN-tasise a little bit ;) But on the net we get showered with all kinds of canon and non canon pairs, all sorts of stories, pictures of them together kissing and all, to me its just destroying the mood. I really tend to focus on the plot of the story more and appreciate it when the romance is well-made. (Its been a long time since I’ve seen or read anything that has both). I also focus on the characters alone - having my favorites, being somehow inspired by them. Maybe I sound like grumpy old man but to me all the hype about non-canon and most of canon couples is just a boring waste of time. 

But then again, its mostly about feelings of fans and I won’t force anyone to feel what I think is good. I just would like it to work both ways so that I don’t get flooded with something other people consider good while I don’t...

Hi! I'm sure you've heard this a lot already, but your realistic portrait series is so good! I love the detail and variation that you put into each face. I was wondering if you had any tips or exercises that you do to help you study realistic human anatomy? I like to draw and have been studying a book about heads, but no matter what I do my faces always end up looking super "anime" >.< but either way, I love your drawings! Keep up the good work!

As for the tips, it’s hard to give any if I didn’t see your drawings, but I’m sure the 2 most important things are drawing from reference and a lot of practice. 

Have a folder for reference pictures, collect them in net whenever you see  photos that you think could help you. While drawing don’t try to copy the reference face, just watch how everything you need looks like, watch where shadows are, compare the size and position of each element with other elements (like you know that the nose is halfway between the eyes - it’s obvious example, just compare other things like that). Observe the variations you mentioned - each person has a different shape of face, eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks, chin etc. Let your reference pictures have people in different positions, as you want to learn drawing faces from different angles and fitting the rest of the body. Remember that the character you’re drawing doesn’t have to look exactly like the person on the reference photo. You can use more than one reference for your pictures, like one for the pose, another for eyes, etc. Drawing faces realistically is SUPER hard when you don’t use references.

And as I wrote before - practice a lot and don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t turn out well, just enjoy the drawing and it will eventually get better. 

To be honest I wouldn’t say I am good at the stuff… Actually, for me, drawing faces is the most difficult thing in the “anatomy” topic and I have to learn A LOT. I often upload a picture and then lowkey hate myself for it because the next day I see how badly I drew something. But I learned not to care - If I did, I would never finish and upload anything. If i don’t, I can just move on to the next picture and learn more and I know that few months later I will be able to easily draw it right. 

And well, as I said, I can’t give you any specific tips since I don’t know how your “anime face” problem look like and how you want to draw. I don’t really like drawing extra realistic stuff, semi-real is more fun for me, and I draw mostly for fun so I don’t often force myself to draw really-realistically :) So there’s another tip: Enjoy the drawing process, try all sorts of stuff and find what you feel most comfortable at^^

your almost-realistic bokuto made me so happy because he looks so goofy!! people in the fandom draw these boys as sex gods walking around in tailored fashionable clothing. bokuto styles his hair after an owl! he's a goofball! kenma hardly goes out and does nothing but play video games he's not gonna look like some perfect angelic doll. all of them probably wear sweats half the time! they're all just teenagers and you portay that and their character's so much thanks for the wonderful art!

Waaaah thanks I love you! :D It’s exactly what I was thinking! I mean (I actually made a post about it) I do try to draw them in the nicest, best looking way possible because I want the pictures to look aesthetically pleasing (to me yes, but more important to others), but I still try to make them look like… people xD 

I drew Bokuto without real face references, because I imagine him in this specific way, with rather chubby face with cute dimples and weird eyes - drawing it was difficult (I’m still working on it), the picture is far away from perfect but it is one of my personal favorites because it’s the first time I managed to make him look closer to what I imagined.

If I drew everyone with as much care as I drew Bokuto, they all would take me way more time and they would look worse because I imagine almost all of them way less handsome. (I think Tooru and Shimizu are the only characters to be described as very handsome/pretty?) (also I think “handsome” and “pretty” are very general words, it may vary depending on person) 

But well, I don’t want to discourage followers from looking at them :D

Why do your almost realistic series look white is it that hard to draw characters with Asian features ?

They are anime characters, I can’t make them all look Asian and still make them look similar to original at same time. Besides, as you just stated - the series is almost realistic and it is for a reason, which is for me to have some freedom in the drawing. 

That aside, your question sounded kinda rude so I just want you to know that I have full right to draw them all white, black or green, if you don’t agree on how they look, you really don’t have to like it...
