some days were more trying than others, but aether had long found a way of concealing heavy weights on his mind well enough to fool even his sister, at times. that evening, he had invited zhongli for a meal, and indulged in some wine to ease himself, and while he sat and spoke with the usual easy-going demeanour, it wasn't until he finished his glass that he finally heaves a soft sigh of comfort. he reached for the other's hand carefully, ready to stop himself should he oppose, and attempted to place a kiss to the back of it, despite the glove, ere briefly touching it to his forehead. ❝ thank you for keeping me company, ❞ he chimed softly. ❝ my mood's not been the best, today. ❞
Zhongli was never one to turn down an invitation for a meal, particularly not when it was someone he considered to be a dear friend who was doing the inviting. Becoming accustomed to the slower pace of mortal life was still a work in progress, but he found that the presence of companions continued to make transitions easier and made time pass more pleasantly. Regardless of whatever reasoning Aether had for the invitation, sharing time together was a blessing in and of itself.
The presence of wine at the table was the first clue, the sigh slipping from the other when the glass was empty another; Zhongli offered no resistance when Aether reached for his hand across the table, patient as palms touched and the other brought the back of a gloved hand close to his face. Brows arched slightly when Aether seemingly went to drop a kiss to the surface, doing nothing to stop the action. Surprise softened with those quiet words from the traveler, Zhongli reaching across the table with his other hand to have Aether raise his head back up again.
"The pleasure is all mine, my dear friend. It is an honor that you have come to me despite your mood." Glancing over to his hand still in Aether's grasp, he gestured for the other to bring his other over before taking both of the traveler's hands in his own. A heavy burden was one on this person's back, one that would weigh on even the most steadfast of minds and Zhongli was afraid that the burden might grow even heavier with every new truth that Aether discovered about the world. At the same time, there was faith that if anyone could handle it, it would be him.
"The edge of the sword comes from sharpening, and the fragrance of the plum blossom comes from the bitter cold -- hardships will make a person stronger." Bringing Aether's hands up to his own face now, he pressed a light kiss to the other's palms in turn. "However, if there is anything I can do to ease these hardships for you, please let me know. You will have my ear always."
