We present workshops on Fatphobia 101, Body Positivity, Fat Desirability and explore the intersection of fat with race, disability, class & sexuality. For many of us, queer or not, "it [doesn't] get better" - it gets fatter! Instead of hating ourselves or clinging to false platitudes about how much better its going to get in some vague far off future, we want to create a world that celebrates us and our bodies the way they are now. We work to create spaces that challenge body policing, cultural forms of aesthetic fascism, and structures of power that negatively impact the lives of fat people of color. Nous présentons des ateliers sur le stigma lié au poids 101, l'image corporelle positive, la désirabilité et explorons l'intersectionalité entre la race, les capacités, la classe sociale et la sexualité. Check out this amaaazing TED Talk by Jill Andrew (who we've had the pleasure to get to know through our Fat's How We Roll peer group!)!! Jill breaks down some of the ways fat bodies - especially black bodies - are impacted by discourses of fatphobia & health.

Reorienting Desire @ Venus Envy

We are so excited to be presenting a brand new workshop next week in Ottawa! This workshop is open to everyone, but we ask allies and white folks to be cognizant of the space they take up. If you're in the city please join us and/or help spread the word!

"Come join the It Gets Fatter Project for a workshop on body positivity and explore how fatphobia structures our vision of desirable bodies. We will look at the ways in which certain bodies are already desirable and others are not, the role of the media in shaping our desires and explore how body positivity can help reorient and shift our desire to include other and different kinds of bodies."

It Gets Fatter at Canada's First National GSA Summit!

Hiii folks!!

This weekend Sara & Asam will be presenting two (2!) sessions of our brand new "Queer Desirability & Fatness" Workshop!! We are so so so excited to be part of this amazing conference and can't wait to take up space as fat people of color!

If you will be attending the conference we encourage you to come check out either one of our sessions (or both!). We will be presenting on Sunday, May 19th, in session 1 & 2. Here is a little blurb for our workshop:

Fat doesn’t have to be a bad word. Let’s breakdown fatphobia 101 then delve more deeply into issues of queer & fat desirability. For many of us, it doesn’t get better, it gets fatter! Instead of hating ourselves (& our bodies) or clinging to false platitudes about how much better it might get in some vague far off future, we want to celebrate ourselves and our bodies the way they are now. We will create a safe(r) space for fat queers of color and their allies to talk about the importance of rethinking queerness and desirability through the lens of fat positivity. Through various interactive activities, we will look at the different ways fat (queer) bodies of color are impacted by class, racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia & queerphobia, and how fat bodies undermine normative *and* queer modes of desire.

The It Gets Fatter Project is a Toronto based body positivity project started by fat people of colour, for fat people of colour! We would really love to send Asam to represent us at the NOLOSE Conference in July that takes place in Portland.

Asam received partial funding for registration and lodging, however since flights from Canada to Portland are not cheap we need your generous support for him to be able to attend and represent our project!
