There had been an explosion. It didn’t matter how many years had passed, how many new bombs there were or how far away they were, Wanda would recognize that sound anywhere. Her heart caught in her throat. She remembered. The bottom had fallen out of the world.
Wanda was on her feet instantly, running towards the sound. Pushing past scattered SHIELD agents. She didn’t think, just moved. Red mist swirled around her, protecting her, as she plunged into what was left of the building.
“Phil!” she screamed over and over. Until she found him trapped under a piece of wall. Wanda skidded to her knees next to him, wrapped her arms around him. Cradled him on her lap as she tried to force the debris away.
It was already too late. She knew that. His week hand came up to push her hair out of her face.
“It’s okay, kiddo,” he mumbled. “I love you.”
“No, no, no, no, no,” Wanda whispered, shaking. “Don’t leave me, Phil. You promised you wouldn’t. Stay with me, Phil. Phil...”
He went limp against her.
