I've been slowly making my way through the itkmemvita playlist for a few days; I like Whose eye is it anyway by jhariah.
The title's a play on the phrase "an eye for an eye", so what's up with that? Does it have anything to do with our favorite one-eyed doctor?
That song was recommended to me by the great webweaver @salemoleander for someone else, actually! And for that character that line would be… Ah, somewhere between masochism and repentance and regret. This character would probably enjoy being blind to it. They would love to look away. They don’t know what to do with this new burden. They’re figuring it out! And the song is talking about a relationship, but the question is directed towards oneself, not directed into any character in particular. It is a reflection of Monsters in that way.
I would actually love for salemoleander to jump in here and give it’s two cents. They’re very good at this sort of thing.
but… The idea that it could be a Doc song is very tasty to me suddenly. The song is still about the same violence, but with this new perspective, the song would be more akin to. “I have to do something with this pain. I can’t just hold it anymore.” is it a knife or a lie? Is it all you have? And for that line and the particular… Doc doesn’t have any reason to not go blind! He’s dead in the water anyway! He’s gonna throw himself into THE solution! you’re in his way, motherfucker! And he is blind anything else. Of course, this perspective also means that the song shouldn’t go there in the playlist… that it probably needs to be closer to kiss with a fist…
(The songs in the playlist are arranged firstly in a way where they best talk to each other. Not exactly in chronological order, cause feelings are flying around all at the same time, and are discordant and unorganized and not worked through at the same time in-story. For instance, Saint Bernard is a sort of reply to No Children, even though that reply develops chronologically after head-shrink.)
