Itmus Test
With complex pronouns
introductions start stiffly,
a choice in each word.
Confidence and trust?
I’m not an object, but “it”
brings me joy and pride.
They/them is pride too,
reserved for all those less queer,
less understanding.
Those who won’t chance it,
won’t understand it through me,
who’ve known, so long, “she.”
When “they” is a leap
in behavior and thinking
“it” is far away.
Dehumanizing?
It was, yes, but now it’s mine.
Mine, all mine: joy, pride.
