for me, the mdni is a way to say PLEASE DON'T SAY YOUR AGE IN REPLIES IF YOU'RE UNDER 18, PLEASE (´;ω;) ive seen people be attacked and called predators because some kid commented their age on a post with mdni. showing nsfw content to a minor is something that can get me, and other adults, into some serious trouble and id rather be cautious about it. also id rather not know if a minor liked my smut and found it hot when x character does y. its just... weird. go talk to your friends that are your age about it
to the minors: i understand that i cant stop you from reading, no one can. id also be a hypocrite if i did; i was in middle school when i began reading fanfiction and early highschool when i moved on to smut. main thing is dont say your age and dont interact closely with the person making the content. things can get messy for the adult in this situation!!
tldr; mdni is a way to save my ass in case trouble comes up because some kid reads my stuff and realizes its not for them.
