She cupped his jaw and kissed him again, more softly, tracing the rain and salt from his lips. He responded almost greedily, his arms tangling around her, and they staggered back until her hip pressed into the table and his knees bent in a slow slide, leaning her over the surface, soaked and shaking and laughing and kissing as if they could actually carve out a new reality underneath all the broken things. This wasn't some slow-motion, cinematic coming together. It was messy, the way grief was messy, and every touch had an edge to it, almost frantic, like they were trying to map each other's skin before the next disaster hit.
