i once decided not to be friends with someone entirely because of a conversation we had where they told me they didnt like mecha, just evangelion and code geass. and i was like thats mecha, so you like mecha. and they were like no i like it cause its about the characters. and i was like yeah, mecha stories are always about the characters. and they were like well a lot of them focus too heavily on how cool the robots are supposed to be. and i was like dont you think evangelion is focused on cool robot fights, in the way that many other mech shows also have interesting character stories and themes. and they were like sure but evangelion is ABOUT the characters and the themes. and i was like have you watched other mecha shows and they said no cause i dont like mecha
