His parents had been talking about renewing theirs; thats where the idea came from.
Thats why Mike Wheeler was currently writing his will at 3:14 am on a wednesday. Most kids his age probably didnt even know what a will was, that was a exaggeration- but still.
He was 15, most people didn’t write their wills until like, 40, or unless they knew they were gonna die. And Mike wasnt very optimistic on that front.
Eddie was dead, Max had died only for El to revive her and now she was in hospital, and now the upsidesown was spreading into Hawkins. He’d be lucky to survive to new years.
So yeah, he was writing his will, not that he had much to give away.
He had his D&D stuff; He had decided all his dice we’re going to be split between Dustin, Will and Lucas, (will getting his favourite set), Will would get all his Dungeon Master stuff, and his character model.
Will would also be getting the binder full of his drawings back, it felt poetic in a way.
He wanted Steve to have his copies of ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘It’, maybe that would finally get him to read them.
The little bit of money he had saved up from odd jobs and stealing from his sister and parents was to go to Nancy, he stole most of it from her anyway- maybe she’d find that fact a bit funny.
He wanted El to have his walkie-talkie, he knew their relationship wasn’t the best right now and he was struggling to identify his feelings (that was a lie; he was just too scared of the truth) but he wanted her to have something of his, something that was important to him, because El was also important to him.
Holly was to get his favourite stuffed animal, the one that was hidden in his closet so his father wouldn't get rid of it.
And he’d written letters, to everyone that mattered, Will, El, Dustin, Max, Lucas, Nancy, Steve, Robin, Holly, Johnathan, Even Hopper and Miss Byers. (he ignored the fact that will had a stack of letters, letters he was too afraid to send, letters he’d written in moments of weakness all signed ‘Love Mike’ when he couldnt even write that to his girlfriend)
and that was it. all he had, all that mattered to him. His parents could do what they wanted with his bed and furniture and clothes, but he’d sorted out the stuff that really mattered.
Mike crept down the stairs making his way to the basement and grabbed his nicest envelope, he tried his hardest to write his name in cursive, so it looked good, and official. Then he stared at it. He had yet to seal the envelope, on the off chance that he got something important in the coming days, or that he just forgot something important that he wanted to write.
He left the envelope on the basement table and laid down on the couch, sleep didnt come to him that night.
